It's all clear to me now.
The Chile Line secretly hauled Yellow Cake from Placerville on the RGS to Los
Alamos before the war, and IIRC, before the Manhattan Project got started.
"Chile John" ambushed one of these trains, and used the Yellow Cake he "borrowed"
to add to the chiles in his chili, thus creating Chili Amarilla - which was neither red
nor green, but did glow in the dark ...

Which brand(s) of beer did he prefer with his chili?
