Thanks, "Ford" -
I hadn't even opened my boxes of well over 300 6x7 cm slides of the AFT and TSE
* for a very long time.
Jim Granflaten's video inspired me to look for a couple of S.L.O. shots; those three were the best I found -
they essentially haven't seen the light of day in over thirty years, and this is the first time they've been
scanned and shared with the whirled.
I have a similar number of B&W 6x7 cm negatives to go through. As this is the NARROW GAUGE Discussion Forum, I'll post only a very few here but will add to the 4449 and 610 galleries on SurvivingSteam.com after I'm done assembling Volume II of the
483 492/497 fundraising screen saver for Roger to burn and distribute.
* Actually, I think the entire Transcontinental Steam Excursion (TSE) lasted no more than three weeks. IIRC, they left Florida in early April, with numerous stops and one- or two-day breaks, and the trip was marketed in segments (e.g. Orlando to Tallahassee, New Orleans to Houston, Los Angeles to Oakland, etc.) On-board accommodations were quite limited, so they always stopped overnight in a large city where passengers could stay in hotels. San Luis Obispo was a bit of a problem, in fact, because there are no large hotels anywhere near the depot, and bus service to several motels on the north and south sides of town had to be pre-arranged.

p.s. I wasn't really part of the crew anymore, and couldn't leave my job to ride the train, but I was able to chase the L.A.-Oakland and Oakland-Eugene segments and help out with servicing a bit at the overnight stops.
