Caboose 49 was coupled to 346 to honor Paul Luning, a volunteer, who was the project leader on 49's rebuild in 1984. Paul did the lion's share of the work and the research. The Caboose was backdated to it's 1880's configuration. (two axles w/equalizer bar, link and pin couplers, single side seat cupola with brake wheel, and opening up the end and side windows, to name a few.) Also discovering that the caboose was renumbered 0548 in later years. It is now caboose 49. Paul has been on the Museum's trustee board for many years. He also coordinated/directed the construction of the Library and roundhouse. A special run was made Saturday evening with Paul riding in "his" caboose. That's why the mis-matched coupling system had to be used.
Caboose 49 behind DSP&P 191 will be placed on the three rail track between the library and station. Paul has contributed above and beyond the call of duty to the Museum. We owe him!

P.S. I'm sure someone out there will argue with this rebuilding information, but this posting is FYI.
