Hello, Dave -

Actually, the 'Curmudgeonly Seven' originated as the result of a post by Roger Hogan, naming "The Five Old Farts" who were contributing photos and/or related skills to "Narrow Gauge Over Cumbres - The Transition Years, Volume I - The 1960's", a screensaver CD sold to raise funds for the restoration of C&TS first locomotive, K-36 #483. (See [ngdiscussion.net]) A weirdo wannabe Hollywood screenwriter jumped on the bandwagon - a way-too-obvious opportunity to partner with Mel Brooks on a spoof the soapbox theatrics of the Georgianatown Loop-de-Loop drama, circa 2005-2008 - and the rest is History ...

Two of the major contributors, John West and Tom Gildersleeve (who are the self-proclaimed 'El Curmudgeon del Norte' and 'El Curmudgeon del Sur', respectively) had tentatively accepted El Russo de los Locos Verdes (myself) and Ernie Robart (a mere Whippersnapper), in spite of their relative youthfulness, as apprentice curmudgeons. Ernie especially was welcomed, in honor of his many years of service on behalf of the C&Ts and his willingness to share his priceless photos.

The screenplay 'The Curmudgeonly Seven', aka 'Georgianatown and the Seven Curmudgeons', required two additional characters, and fortunately the producers of the film were not particularly fastidious as to the minor character actors employed. Hence Scott Turner is the full-time sixth member of the cast, and Ed Stabler & Skip Luke alternate as the seventh Curmudgeon as their busy schedules allow ... (Johnny Coal has accepted a bit part as a 'Handsome young telegrapone Operator'. and Jeff Badger & Phil Reader are understudies, who occasionaly fill in for Ed and/or Luke as needed. IIRC, Ed [Oilcan] Kelly has proven invaluable as Key Grip and Lighting Technician.)

The beginnings of the complex foameric friendships of the major protagonists can be traced Russo's year in To-Hell-U-Ride in 1972-73, and to Tom and Russo's accidental meeting at Saugus, CA, on the occasion of Canadian Pacific Royal Hudson #2860's visit to SoCal in 1977 (a scant month before the triumphant return of #4449 from her nationwide tour with the Americam Freedom Train.) Tom, in turn, introduced Russo to JBWX - and the rest is History.

Okay, Dave - In all honesty, what I am asking is - Are you SURE you want to risk your reputation as a relatively normal foamer to be associated a motley crew like us?

- Russo de los Locos Verdes
