For heavier work, we can show you where to do shovel work and tamping on track. We had a YCC crew doing a lot of that, and they were 14 to 17 years old. They weren't allowed to use powered equipment, so doing the type of things they did would be a beginning place, if we don't have a group doing something where training in how to use special tools could be included. They also did carpentry work on the depot platform. Now we are seeing that carpentry work on Coach 100 is part of the repairs it needs.
For lighter work, we always have painting to do somewhere. We need time to arrange donation of paint, so you need to let us know when you want to come in. If you want to stay in the Great Northern camping caboose, let us know. It still had openings for some weekends, last time I talked to Matt. He is scheduling that for this year. He broke both his arms, and still had one in a cast a few weeks ago.
There is also cleaning of parts, if being around grease and oil is OK for your boys. Just be sure to bring clothes that can be discarded, if the stains don't come out.
For very light work, cleaning up the shops and other buildings helps. We keep thinking one more storage building is just what we need, then it fills up, and gets hard to find what we need.
Let us know when you are coming, and what you want to do, and we can plan on having what you need to do it with.
