I don't have a D&RG rule book or employee timetable so can't speak specifically, but on other roads, a green light would have two uses. First would be to display a green and white light for a flag stop at night.
The other would be to mark the end of a trackwork slow order. A yellow/red flag or yellow light would mark the beginning of a slow order because of trackwork affecting conditions. The train cannot resume speed until the engine and cars have all passed a green flag or light.
I have several lanterns with green globes, some marked some not. The globe might even look blue but put that yellow flame inside and it really looks green.
