Hi,Bob,
I was your engineer on Shay #7 on Memorial Day; hope you had a good time! I still don't think we got you dirty enough.
According to the book, The Climax Locomotive, by Thompson, Dunn, and Hauff, our climax is Shop #1692, delivered 12-1928, to Elk River Coal and Lumber Co. at Swandale, WV. It appears to be the last climax delivered. It's next operator was W> M> Ritter Lumber Co., also at Swandale, WV. It was sold to the Carroll Park & Western, a tourist railroad at Bloomburg, PA, in 1962, and converted to 48 inch gauge to match the coal mine trackage he operated on. I believe he also had a 48" gauge 0-4-0T that was built for the coal company; it seems many of the coal mines used that gauge for their in-plant railroads. Roaring Camp acquired the Climax in 1972. We would very much like to convert it to 36" gauge if finances ever allow it.
Hope this answers your question.
Chris
