Holy cow. I just read the article linked from the Railfest schedule post below. There is a great picture taken inside what I imagine is the B-7. Looks great, but I read with horror that "the company" had considered honoring the current owner by renaming the B-7 for him (note use of lower case "h").
This would have been a correctly percievced monumental act of pompous, self-serving-ass-kissing stupidity, and I, for one, am most grateful that it didn't happen. I'm also quite sure that this was probably a very near miss that would have had to have been corrected. How in Hell can anyone possibly imagine that naming the car for the current "owner" would overshadow the very real and significant contributions to Colorado's History that were accomplished by William Jackson Palmer? This person (there couldn't be two, could there??) should be fired at once, and escorted off the property to what might have been called McBradshaw's fine dining, had things worked out differently. There, they should be made to sit in a corner wearing a party hat and a clown suit to host birthday parties for 10 year-olds. This person would be recognizable from other clowns by his brown nose.
With the fiasco surrounding the "New" Mile High Stadium's name, it should be patently obvious that Coloradans in particular cannot be made to be impressed by big bucks.
So, Kudos to those who saved General Palmer's name on the B-7. I am both pleased and appreciative that we were all spared this act of foolishness. I am also mightily impressed with the willingness of "the company" to invest $250,000 to restore this beautiful car.
Sorry, I feel better now. You may all return to normal programming.
