I have a question for Michael Allen;
No where in the comments about the Case explosion have I heard anyone say anything about hydro testing. When I owned the 15" Crown #1 I carried
insurance on the boiler thru Hartford. Each spring before I began the season's operation the Hartford inspector would come and examine the cold
boiler. Then we would hydro it to about 150% operating pressure and finally we would fire it to pop-off pressure. Isn't this done anymore?
The inspector was very cooperative and freely gave advice on the care and operation of the boiler. I am sure that I was able to keep the boiler in much better condition because of his help.
Several of my friends are owners of steam traction
engines. They use the sonic testing. Has this replaced the hydro?
