It happened twice last year. The first time, I was just returning to the open car with someone I went to the concession car with. I heard what the Docent was talking about, and since I knew the story, I tried to fill in my "buddy" with the part I knew he didn't hear. By the time we got to the open car, I was told "Don't compete with me". Granted, the docent didn't know I had been talking with this person for the last 10 minutes while were both off the open car, getting concessions.
The 2nd time was a bit rougher. On the C&T, they want you in your assigned seat before departure. That is because they want to punch your ticket, and get your lunch order done before letting you roam the train. Well, I hear questions from my seat. I know the answer, and since there is rarely a docent in the passenger cars at all times, I am glad to answer the quesions I know the answers to. So, a short time after we start moving, I bee line to the open car. Shortly after that, some of the folks that were in the passenger car that I started off in decide to come to the open car too. Well, rather than wait for the docent to get done with his narritive, they start asking me quesions. I got nailed on that. I started answering questions I was directly asked. The docent heard me answering. I was sternly told that there was"ONLY ONE DOCENT" on this train.
Hey, I might be a "foamer", but I am a PAYING passenger. I am also a member of the Friends of the C&T. I am a member of the CRRM, and GGHS5. It bummed me to think I had to STFU in the open car.
Ahh, next week, two days on the C&T. Sure wish that Robert Richardson was out on the open car with me (and the docent).
