Drew, these are all great shots you are posting.
Erick Nelson and I were in Durango the first week of August '67 (as was a very young Earl, it turns out). We saw two engines under steam and being serviced from a freight run, #487 and #498.
I believe the four engines in your first picture are #487, #483, #484, and #498.
In the second picture at Monero, I believe the second engine is #483. The other two must have been working their way to Chama from Alamosa.
There were stories about how difficult it was to get any pictures at Monero, some being run off by a guy waving a shotgun.
Thanks for posting these. Most of my pictures from that time were taken with one of my Dad's old cameras using 8 shot per roll 120 film.
