There is a book written by a man who was a Ford dealer in the 19teens where he describes the difficulty unloading Ford Model T's from boxcars. The book as I recall is "Me and the Model T" by Roscoe Schiller. He mentioned as I recall that fenders had to be removed for shipment to allow sufficient clearance for loading and unloading. If I recall correctly some were shipped further knocked down with the bodies completely separated from the chasis.
Seems like I recall seeing a photo of an SVRy narrow gauge box car with a fully removable end wall for transporting automobiles. How did the Rio Grande accomplish this on the NG.
