A correction on RGS Rotary No. 2. The RGS rotary did not fail due to a broken shaft, but due to a boiler explosion at Vance Junction in 1949. The night watchman who was supposed to be watching the water level wasn't, and the boiler blew. There are multiple pictures of this incident showing the aftermath and the entire right side is blown out. With no money to fix the rotary the RGS lost one of its most effective and necessary snow fighting tools perhaps contributing to the ultimate demise of the railroad in 1951.
