Coxo was removed in 1965. I don't know the actual reason for it coming out. It was too short to be of much use. They stored ties there at the end. The siding at Lava was removed in the 1950's.
The pic is of the Illini RR Club trip in the fall of 1960. They did a photo run at Coxo Siding. I have a record with a runby of the this same train down at the crossing. Eldon Morgan was engineer on 483.
The Illinois RR club ran some great trips on the NG. They usually ran 4 days to include both Farmington and Silverton Branches. They also ran a charter train out of Chicago to Alamosa. The train had coaches, pullmans lounge and diner. On at least one occasion the Chicago-Denver portion was pulled by CB&Q 4-8-4 5632. They ran as second section to the California Zephyr. They kept catching up with the Zephyr all the way across to Denver. Imagine being in a heavywieght Pullman, snug in your bed as a 4-8-4 is winging you across Nebraska at 90mph in the middle of the night.....
I think the fare for the whole thing from Chicago was $75.00
