I would like to use this list of share information about numerous Eastern Narrow Gauges and may become lucky to find someone who might help on a line of his knowledge.
Quest #1: The Kelly Island Lime & Transport (of Ohio fame and largest Shay owner) had a quarry operation at Dover Plains, NY, midway up on the Harlem line of the NYC. Best records show it was 3' gauge with up to 4 miles of track between about 1919 and about 1929.
They used Shay #1514 and #220 and Baldwin 0-4-0 1903 #22104 12ton. Road number 25 for 1514 and road #2 for 228. Later Shay 562 (or trucks from 562)was added possibly as replacement. They had 4% grade, 60 degree curves, 35# rail and handled rock product, shipping out over the NYC via a spur still evident at the SE side of town.
Can anyone add to this data? Please! PRR
