Subjects on the Board

August 12, 2001 10:03PM
The format of this board, including the way the default settings only display posts for the last 5 days is both a good and a bad thing. It's a good thing because when you open the page, it shows the latest posts, but that can also be a bad thing if it's been a few days since you have visited and a possible subject of interest is buried down on the page or gone.
Don't be discouraged if you don't get responses you expect from various subjects. It really is sort of a moving target. Every day is different based on topics, and those individuals who check in. Lots of readers only check in from work during the week, and others only check in when they have time on weekends. This board is read by people all over the world, as well, so posts can appear at all hours of the day. Not to mention insomniacs. I myself often go through periods of days when I just don't have time to respond because I'm so busy with work and other things. Akso, there is a wide range of ages and backgrounds of the readers and contributors here, perhaps a better blend than one that can be found anywhere else on the web, at least regarding Narrow Gauge (at least Colorado NG). I think that's sonmething we can all be proud of.
Readers and contributors of this board are a wonderful source of information on a vast number of subjects, and it's almost always fun to check in and see what's going on.
I appreciate the time you put into your above post, but like many of us, I can't add anything to it. Keep plugging away, PRR. Your posts are read by lots of folks, and the ability to share information in this manner is one of the best things that has ever happened in human communication.
Regarding format, I actually prefer this to "e-mail lists" because I don't want to have to sift through all the posts individually to find subjects of particular interest.
Again, thanks for contributing, and thanks for reading. We are all parts of the whole.
