You know, we all like the history of this outdated mode of transportation from "the good old days" (and the machines themselves seem to have a life today's diesel engines - of all types - don't)...but at that time, trains were pretty much the only way to move freight around - short of horse-and-wagon. I suspect most people of the time either didn't think about it...or cursed it and dreamed of "something" better.
So it leads me to think: Are today's interstates (or airports) the dinosaurs of tomorrow - the remnants of which people 100 years from now will try to track down?...perhaps similar to people now tracing US66?
Pictures and mass communication are much more common now, but perhaps people will try to locate stories/pictures of truck stops and the like.
Just some stray thoughts on late Sunday night after too many long hours staring at a computer screen.
