You know, one of best parts about railroading is the collection of stories from the glory years of steam railroading on the narrow gauge. Personally I collect Railroad Magazine prior to 1954 solely for the "True Tales of the Rails" and segments such as "The Boomer Trail" and so on. In specific I am trying to collect Railroad magazine between 1941 and 45.
Some of the best stories are of old times on the narrow gauge. Most are NNG, but are very insightful and entertaining no less. They are all embellished a little but the language, tone, jargon, and perspective are fascinating. Many of these stories I have read several times through and would be happy to relate them over the board but it might not work so well. I would like to share these stories and collect a few more. What are your favorites and where do you find them?
