I believe that Carstens Publications hold the rights to both "Railroad Magazine" and "Railroad Man's Stories" by acquiring "Railroad Magazine" many years ago. "Railroad Magazine" became "Railfan & Railroad" I believe. With that in mind, it would be interesting to find out if they have a complete set of either or both and would they duplicate them to DVD or CDs. If the magazine retains its Original look in the electronic form (advertising in place and so on), there would not be a royalty problem (the courts ruled that if it is a copy of the page then it was like a microfilm copy). The DVDs or CDs could then be sold to us "railroad nuts" but to Libraries and so on for research. I have found a lot of knowledge in the old magazines that is almost lost (and will be if something is not done).
I don't know why some of the model railroad magazine have not been offering their magazine back issues in electronic format such as DVD or CDs. It would help save a lot of space (at my house anyway) if they did. I know that some of the German model railroad magazine are doing this. Here, the only one that I know that did it was "Model Railroading" magazine, which they have 2003 through 2006 on CD (there are still available as well as some electronic books at their website
Model Railroading).
Anyway, I would like to see more old magazines put into electronic format, because I feel that this would help save them and would help in future research. If anyone knows someone at Carstens Publications that can push the idea for "Railroad Magazine" and "Railroad Man's Stories" it would be great and it would free up some space for me
