I had a sinking feeling when I first saw this, and get it again every time I read the sensationalist hooey being marketed as fact.
I think the most misleading and inflamatory remark made so far was "This is why the farmers stopped using them" attributed to the local coroner out there. Gee, sorry, but that had as much to do with it as slavery with the civil war (excuse me, the war of northern aggression- sorry Mak), ...in both cases most of it was simple economics. A large steam tractor required a 2 man crew, plus a man and a boy and a team for the watoer wago, it requiredAt least an hour of prep time in the morning, and special precautions for storage and in winter. A gas or kero tractor could be operated by one man, was ready to work as soon as it decided to start, and could be winterized much more easily..."money in the bank, not in the tank"
I also found the news representation of Ohio boiler laws very misleading, implying it was a free for all. When what had been occurring (up till Sunday, anyway) was a pretty successful case of self-regulation by the hobbyist community.
