Furnace brazing is when you build some sort of furnace around an Iron casting so the whole part can be evenly heated to a brazing temp. Then after the brazing is completed everything can be slowly cooled. When you try to braze cast iron particularly where there are sections of differing thickness by just heating in one area you frequently get new cracks developing next to the repair.
One of the cracks high lighted with "dye-chek"
Cylinder casting after brazing but prior to machining
New liner being installed in cylinder casting. We warmed the casting to about 300 degrees and chilled the liner in liquid nitrogen, then just slipped them together.
