Since no one else has brought it up, in one of Bob Richardsons books he mentions, at some time during the early 50's pipe boom, going out to Big horn to watch a saw-by and seeing the train back way up on the wye. When there was no crash he investigated and discovered that the tail had been extended by bulldozing up a rough grade and throwing track on it. Crew begged him to keep it quiet since they'd had no authorization from above (Perleman Era?). just a sec...

Ok, memory failing. It's in the Intro to CRA #21, p19 and it was the "Division Chiefs" who were worried about Denver finding out after it was mentioned in NGN. I'm too lazy to look up the issue in question right now.
(and I've got some snow to shovel...)
