Was the Chama office open 24 hours a day back when the line was at its peak? Did that living space provide for multiple agent/operators or was a single agent suppose to be available whenever needed?
I think most of us don't appreciate how busy these stations once were. The first time I was in Silverton, there was an agent still working. He really only did business for Rio Grande Trucking by that time. He told me that when he first arrived there, there were 16 men working out of that depot. Of course, some of them may have been employees of the Silverton, Silverton Northern, or Silverton Gladstone & Northerly.
