Hey Kevin,

if you have ever been on a steam engine they shake, rattle and roll. Now if you have a couple of jacks up there with 2-way ratcheting mechanisms, like a socket wrench, and they can free turn they will eventualy, given chaos theory, either screw themselfs up or down until they either fall apart or reach and end stop.

So mount a nice looking broom stick or the rod between them that you'll need and the don't screw themselfs anywhere but where you put them. Probably some roadforeman thought it looked cool on some other railroad and in monday morning memo declared that the new cooler grill on our engines should be painted....

form follows function, at least for working people with normal amouts of money..
