In a couple days this Eastern narrow gauge fan will be headed west to see the sights, and hoping to fit in some western narrow gauge action along the way. The Sumpter Valley is on the itenerary, but try as I might, I haven't been able to schedule it in anywhere but mid week, probably Wednesday August 8th. I know the SV only runs weekends and holdiays and I'd hate not getting to see her run, but I'll take what I can.
Anyway, my question is, what can be seen and done at the SV during the week? Can the locos be viewed? I'm particulary interested in every last bit of EBT equipment they have there. I won't be run of the property, will I?
I'll be coming in via US 26 then OR 7, which I beleive parallels the old SV grade though the Oregon Gazateer does not show it. Is there anything there to see? Is there a SV map online? What decent campgrounds are nearby in Whitman NF? I'll be departing on the 21st, so answers after that will likely not be helpful.
Thanks!
