I have always liked this movie, not so much for the plot, but for the detailed video shots of the locomotive, rolling stock and roadbed. Most movies that involve trains usually have a few fast shots that are a few seconds long and never show enough detail. Watching this movie as a young railfan was the first time I saw detailed action shots of the backhead of a locomotive and the inside of a caboose. The close up shots of the running gear in action at the beginning of the movie are also great (I also liked the theme song). Even the simple scene of "Cracker" throwing a switch (showing details such as switch locks, switch stands, and switch points moving) was fascinating to me. Ernest Borgnine always was at his best as the villian........
