I would like someone to actually reprint the painting specs for the K36 engines on here and then show me how pictures over the decades validate one or another paint job. The engines were painted according to the whims of the shop in which they were overhauled and after being in service for sometime were so grimy and filthy that you could not tell what color they were painted. Personally, I vote for green boiler jackets as many D&RG engines were painted in the early years. I see nothing wrong with the way 489 us painted. The railroad is after all the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad......not the Rio Grande. If the silver paint so bothers you, you must be going totally nuts over the red cars.
