That would seem to indicate that Kenny Faucett was the engineer on the 498. Andy Payne said that Faucett was the senior narrow gauge engineer in 1968. He usually ran the Antonito train, which was still considered a narrow gauge train even though it was standard gauge and diesel powered.
If they used a senioity board, like Durango, it meant that the senior man was always called and junior men were called when there was extra work. Junior men would get the helper because of the mileage running light would be at reduced pay. Since Eldon Morgan was on the helper it would seem to inidcate someone senior to him was on the road engine.
Of course if it were a rotation board it could have been anyone of a number of men.
This is just a guess but fun anyway.
