Just in case the tall tale about the D&RGW's Santa Fe branch surviving to haul the A bomb parts is still alive, the Colorado RR Museum has a file filled with documents showing the agents along the line ordering box cars cars to load the contents of the various depots and the agent's personal possessions. The agent at Taos Junction ordered a flat car to transfer the depot ice box to the freight house in Durango. All of these documents are dated July and August of 1941.
The museum also has an 1942 inventory of materials salvaged from the line.
I am sure the conspiracy theories will continue, but for inquiring minds who want to really know, the line was gone by the end of 1941.
