I have now lost confidence in today's steel manufacturing. I haven't done much design with carbon steel, so I am not very familiar with the quality of the newer steels. I had assumed it was constantly being improved, similar to aluminum, stainless and the more exotic metals. Sounds like the quality has dropped since most of the US steel mills shut down.
Thanks for all the updates and information. I should be taking notes. This is almost as good as a class in boiler mechanics, and a whole lot more interesting.
