346 Sidelined?

I was out at the CRRM for the 9-10 run and the first thing i saw was that the 346 had been put out near the main entrance where shay 12 had been sitting. I have heard that 346 may be out of service due to some main rod damage or that 346 may not be used because of fire danger. However at the last steam-up in july there was a terrible clanking noise when the main rod was closest to the ground. Does anybody have any more info about this to clarify.
