Eureka is staying at home

August 09, 2008 06:55PM
Unfortunately we were unable to come to an agreement to bring Eureka to the D&S for Railfest 2008. There were several reasons which included insurance matters, lack of publicity, and things like that. That does not mean that we cannot get those matters resolved some time in the future for another event. Al Harper has always been very enthusiastic about Eureka, so I think the dialog will continue.

The entire crew was deeply disappointed. The usual bunch of suspects on the crew would have been present, but I also made room for one of the Space Shuttle Commanders who said he was very interested in helping us. That would have been quite photo event and a leap across time for him....commanding the shuttle and crewing on a 19th century steam locomotive, the space shuttle of the Old West 135 years ago. Oh well, that's baseball. I doubt that opportunity will ever arise again. It would have made for a terrific event.

Anyway, to all of you who have followed Eureka and would have ridden with us, I extend my deepest apologies. To not be able to run Eureka at Railfest and share her with you is a big disappointment, especially after waiting through almost a 3 year waiver process. Perhaps sometime in the near future we can all get together again at the D&S, the C&TS, Sumpter, Pacific Coast Railroad or where ever Eureka is welcome.
