I had tried to point out in an earlier message on this thread that
single note (hooter) whistles cannot be chimes, since chime suggests
more than one note.
I did see & photograph 463's whistle in 2001. If it is not a
Baldwin plain, then it is a well made copy. A number of Baldwin
locomotives left the factory with this type of whistle...just look
at old erecting cards that show builders photos.
As to identifying whistles by sound, it just takes some getting
used to.
