This is Running Lode trestle. IT was built over Running Gulch above Black Hawk. If you look carefully you can see the spur into the Running Lode Mill and if you look directly above the Mill you will see a white building located next to the right of way on the upper switchback. and you can follow this line around the hillside on its way to Central City. A bit of note might be made about the trestles on the aerial tram directly above the plume of smoke on the 2-6-0
The first part of the switchback began in Black Hawk Proper with the switch being located to the (Railroad Direction) West of the Big Fifty Mill. This photo is near the upper end of the second tail on the switchback. The tail of this track was filled with the three car train shown.
This line also had the sharpest curve on the Clear Creek Line and 2-6-0's were the most common power, although one of the most famous photos taken at Packard Gulch was of a 2-8-0. C&S 13 was assigned as the Central City Switcher for many years.
Today this area has been filled, graded and is part of a parking lot.
