Thanks for the kind words Scott. It helps when you have good memories. One memory that keeps coming back was from when we lived in Farmington, NM in 1945. My dad had to go on business to Alamosa and was going to take the San Juan Express out of Durango in January or February of 45. He was going to take me with him as I already loved trains at 5 years old. Of course none of the family knew anything about standard gauge or narrow gauge; it was just a train. Years later when my dad talked about that trip and seeing all the snow, he told me that I didn't make the trip because I wanted to be with mommy. How many can say they gave up a trip on the San Juan Express to be with their mother ? I did get a ride on it later that year when we went home to Louisiana.
