The "observation" car I mentioned in my previous post appears to be a converted banana car with open windows and bus seats. Think of it as "rustic" in the same terms a real estate ad would try to describe a questionable property. Again, the issue is not scrap value, but transportation. You are looking at least $150,000 per engine or car to get one out of there, if you can get a heavy haul ship to stop for just one. There was an effort to interest other parties in some of the other equipment last May, but no one else had or was willing to spend the money. The engines were the only thing of useable or historical significance left that was worth getting out of there. At this point, I do not know of any other serious interest in obtaining the remaining equipment, it is too valuable as scrap and too expensive to buy and move.
The link mentionioned before should be working again. I got an e-mail from John Goldrick saying they had suspended his site for a while due to too many hits!
