Steve's picture is of the #803, I am 99% sure that it is the first one of this model built as Chiriqui Land Co. #56 and has managed to survive since August of 1952 - almost 56 years. #720 now at SUmter Valley appears to have been the last one built.
The parts engine #56 is CLC/BFC second #56, and is the fourth one built also in 8/52. Granada Co. #6 (Dominican Republic)(42”); to FC de Quepos #81 (Costa Rica)(42”); about 1982 to FC del Sur #52 (Costa Rica)(42”); 1985 to CLC/BFC and regauged to 36", apparently used by them considering the paint and lettering. I can't figure out where it got its number, it should have become their #806?
The 32 ton engines should be model B-B 64/64 2GE763 originally built with CAT D-336 engines at 335 hp. These should have one motor in each truck and are chain drive to the other axle, no train air is apparent as the cars did not use it. Probably same price as a 50T.
Anyone need an observation car? It is a real gem!
see [
www.ledbury.plus.com] The #830,831 and the unidentified 50 ton with the grill in the front nose should be the ones RDC bought later that year and are now in Africa as 42" gauge.
