Much of the information in the lead article shown on Ft. Lewis' website on the Nomad was fabricated one July evening in 1957 by H.B. Wood. I must admit in playing a small role in that as I was reading underlined passages in various railroad books to Wood as he typed out the news release that became the basis for that newspaper article. We did this in the rear parlor area of the Nomad a few days before the first trip of the restored car to Silverton. And most of what Wood found came out of Beebe's rather embellished versions of Rio Grande history in several of Beebe's books.
The Nomad, or more properly the B-3, is a wonderful car, and we are indeed fortunate it is still running after Wood's rescue of the car and a later fire that fortunately didn't consume the car. I have ridden it several times over the years, but that first ride in 1957 still stands out sharply in my memory.
