I do not know of a warranty as such, though there could have been something. But, as noted in a previous thread, railroads usually did not pay the full purchase price upon reciept of a locomotive. The Northern Pacific for one, was able to negotiate a reduced price for poor workmanship on several occasions. Also, locomotives were sometimes rejected back to the builder as being unsuited to the conditions on the purchasing road. This was usually done by smaller railroads on single purchases.
