Don't forget the water treatment additives that get put in locomotive water to help with scale build-up problems. I have no idea what exactly they use, but it's probably not really something you'd want to ingest in large quantities.

Actually, that raises the question - what is typically used as a boiler additive for hard water, from a chemical standpoint?
