I was on the site of the Ophir Depot in July 1960. The station was gone and the new road fill 20 feet thick over the site was completed. It was still in the subroadbed stage [surface was mostly rocks the size of a fist plus dirt]. No crushed gravel yet and definitely no pavement. The brand new paved road from Placerville ended at Telluride.
Some of the other buildings were still around, though -- Mrs. Skilling's store, the Oilton Club, etc. I did not have much time so snapped a few photos and returned to Silverton via Ridgway & Ouray.
