on our engin it is downstream of the single run 1/2" black iron type "E" superheater element whitch is inside the boilers single 4-5" (cant remember the exact sise at the moment) flue whitch has 3 1" thermic syphons in it (unfourtunately one is directly below the steam dome making the engin prone to carryover) the boiler shell is 3/8" thick straight tube (not wagon backed like the prototype) and was welded by a profesional boilermaker and tested to 480 PSI and held.
we have only had the throttle valve fail once and since then have used steam rated valves. though i dont like how they open, nothing then everything with a very short ramp up it works and is an off the shelf part.
a pic engin was being used to move keystone blocks for the rplacement of a retaining wall. to get to the wall the engin had to shove five carloads (2 cars with 5 85 pound blocks 3 with 4) up a 2.2 percent grade the boxcar was a buffer
