We have had snow on the ground since before Thanksgiving, and it has been several storms a week with little melting since the temperatures have stayed cold. They is at least two feet on the ground at the McEwen shops, more in some areas.
The shop is not insulated, so it was in the upper 20s inside and outside today. Both 50 tonners are inside for further survey work, and still have ice on their decks. The current facilities were never envisioned to serve a year-round operation. With the Xmas trains and off-season shop work, things are having to change. The 110 (10 ton) is just too small to push through heavy snow. It is hoped that one of the 50s with pilot plows will act as snowplow and be big enough to get traction in the snow by next winter.
