At one time you could drive the route of the original transcontinental telegraph wire....it left Vernon, Utah and went west across the desert into Nevada south of the Dugway Proving grounds.
There are or were large monuments every so often where the maintenance stations were located. Fish Springs was one of them.
The line crossed into Nevada south of Callao somewhere. I drove out there once while I was stationed in SLC with the D&RGW.....most interesting and wild country. The road took me to Alt 93, and back to
Wendover.
