. . . my own Gn3 modeling is very manageable! . . . provided you don't mind building tunnels in the walls of your house. Personally, I like Gn3 because (1) it lets me put in loads of detail (2) it forces me to set up the track in a zigzagging, sharp-curved fashion. The real ones worked under similar space constraints, so it seems to me to capture the spirit of narrow-gauge railroading a little more than having long straights and gentle curves. And (3) the bigger it is, the closer it is to the real thing.
