I appreciate the info on the West End line. Did the railroad actually have a name or was it simply an industrial railroad associated with a company? This is maybe the fourth 2 foot line that I know of within the state of California. The others would be the Sonoma Magnesite Tramway which was abandoned in 1925 but remained largely unscrapped until the early 1960s, the Merced Gold Mining Company railroad in Coulterville, home of the 1896 Porter 0-4-0T "Whistling Billy" (on display in Coulterville today), and I think one of the salt flat railroads in the SF bay area. I would appreciate knowing of any others. Does anything exist today of the West End right of way or facilities? Seems like in such a desert environment it would be quite possible.
Thanks,
O. Anderson
