This 24" gauge Vulcan was built in 1906 for the Portland and Seattle and used in construction of the GN and NP. Sometime in the early 'teens it was sold to the West End Consolidated Mining Co. in Trona, CA where Walter Knott purchased it from in the 40's.

Long before Knotts chain linked the park and charged admission, you could walk right in and check out the town, ride the train, have your name stamped in a horseshoe (made in the blacksmith shop seen at the rear of this engine) and dine on the best fried chicken dinner and boysenberry pie in the world! Oh and as was mentioned below, one heck of a model train hobby shop. Boy I miss those days.
