Stacktalk,
Thanks for your interest! Through quite a bit of hard work and luck I've been able to track down ten or so former 770th men, and have gotten their stories on audio-tape. A lot of them have extremely interesting pictures they took during their time up there, and of course the oral history alone is invaluble. There were a total of 638 soldiers on the railroad, so I'm guessing there are still a few more left around that I have yet to find. In a couple years I'll publish a book of their interviews and pictures.
Within the next year or year and a half I will have a book out, composed of interviews I've done with former RGS,D&RGW,SVRy,WestSide, WP&YR, etc employees. I'll be sure to let people know on this site in case they are interested.
These "old-timers" know a lot about our favorite roads, and that information will be lost when they pass away. If any of you guys know of an old-timer still around, it's worth the time to record their stories.
Thanks,
Casey
