Does anyone know the details behind an interesting photo I spotted today hanging in Giuseppe's Old Depot Restaurant in the old Grande depot in Colorado Springs?...
The B&W photo clearly shows 473 angled steeply down the embankment into the Animas, just dipping the tip of her pilot plow into the water. What's intriguing is that she appears dressed up for a film, complete with fake diamond stack, bright colors and a big, boxy "old-fashioned" headlamp. It appears she was headed southbound on the west bank of the river, trailing a string of boxcars, gondola, caboose, and then coaches that appear to be Grande gold.
For anyone in the Springs, it's photo 323 near the restaurant entrance. And by the way, the depot is nicely restored since the 1999 fire, full of NG photos, RR memorabilia and decent food, with NG DRG 168 across the street in the park.
