My technique

As Frad sez , pure linseed is the way to go. Another way that works great is to mix 50-50 with red oxide primer .Use oil based paint . I painted a drop bottom gon (after carefully scraping it) way back in August 1982 . It is still holding paint far better than the cars painted afterward with white primer . I admire it every time I go to the drug store in Durango . Sanding off old paint and wood splinters really helps but power sanders leave a scalloped appearance that is frowned upon by preservationists . I used a power sander, linseed and oil base paint on some of the boxcar coaches in Chama in the 1970s.Though they had been repainted ,they still hold their original paint ,never flaking . I noticed the Friends would paint primer on cars and then use water base paint .I also noticed the cars are repainted every other year ! I tried to suggest my technique ,but am not sure anyone was listening ...
